Oprah

Post contributed by Leonard Phelps

I grew up watching Oprah. I was fortunate to have a mom who understood the importance of us spending time together, and one of the things we did every afternoon when I got home from school was watch Oprah. This was early on of course, before Oprah was giving away cars and trips to Australia. Back then, her talk show was basically one hour of…well, talking. And we loved it. There was a lot to learn from Oprah. Her show was all about empowering women, loving yourself, and loving others. I always think back fondly on my time watching Oprah with my mom. We laughed, sometimes we cried, but we always sat together for an hour each afternoon and talked while watching her show. You see where this is going, right? Now that she’s no longer on TV, I really miss that one hour. Good news, though! Did you know Oprah has her own TV network now? It’s called The OWN Network, and it showcases a lot of shows that are all about—you guessed it—empowering women, loving yourself, and loving others. Put it on the List

My son has always wanted some random thing every year and that's what I would tell him each time. There are a few things that I never forgot that he wanted, but there were always things I purchased instead because they were higher on the priority list or what not. Being that he's a teen now, I decided to go back to that obscure list and see what I might be able to manage. One thing that he always wanted was a metal detector, so I thought I might check out a couple metal detectors sales and see what there is out there. I'm not sure if it's something I'll actually do, but I know he would appreciate the thought.

Which One?

My music library isn't very big since I've lost a lot of it over the years. Until I met my BF, one of my favorite things to do was to create all sorts of playlists on Youtube so I had something to listen to with each mood I happened to be in. I'm one of those people that may not necessarily love a particular artist, but I'll like a bunch of songs separately. It was always hard for me to buy albums because I would only like one or two songs on them. Even now I find that I only care for a few albums in thier entirety. I found a really great youtube video download thing so that I could pick a few songs here and there that I had to have without buying the whole album. I love being able to now have that option.

Square One

It's the holiday season and I'm back to where I normally find myself. Every year I say I'm going to save money for this time of year, but I never end up being able to and then I'll start freaking out until the kids' birthdays are over. This year is a little more stressful than previous years because of the move and expenses that came with it. I've been going back to past clients to see if any of them might need any help at the moment. Lucky for me a few have come through and I was able to pick up some extra cash here and there. I'm still not sure how I'll manage, especially with the addition of another child, but I'll figure it out...I always do.

Creepy Effects

Being that this is our first holiday season together, my BF is trying to make them as fun as he possibly can. Halloween is always fun for the kids, but decorating the house is generally the adult part of the fun. The result is for the kids of course, but getting it all up can really put a smile on your face. We can't do it this year, but we would really like to get a fog and noise machine for the future, those would really make an impression on our trick-or-treaters. Hopefully the girls won't be squabbling the entire time we're out this year.

A New Path?

With my BF out of work right now, it's making me think about what options I need to keep open for the future. I've always kept healthcare in the back of my mind in case I need to look for outside work some day. I've always been interested in what Obstetrician & Gynecologist Jobs have to offer and I think that it would be a fun and interesting area to focus on. Being a parent and a female, working in that field would definitely teach me a lot about myself and my children as well. I know that the education process can take some time, so it's probably a good idea if I decide sooner than later on what I'll choose to do.
