Oprah

Post contributed by Leonard Phelps

I grew up watching Oprah. I was fortunate to have a mom who understood the importance of us spending time together, and one of the things we did every afternoon when I got home from school was watch Oprah. This was early on of course, before Oprah was giving away cars and trips to Australia. Back then, her talk show was basically one hour of…well, talking. And we loved it. There was a lot to learn from Oprah. Her show was all about empowering women, loving yourself, and loving others. I always think back fondly on my time watching Oprah with my mom. We laughed, sometimes we cried, but we always sat together for an hour each afternoon and talked while watching her show. You see where this is going, right? Now that she’s no longer on TV, I really miss that one hour. Good news, though! Did you know Oprah has her own TV network now? It’s called The OWN Network, and it showcases a lot of shows that are all about—you guessed it—empowering women, loving yourself, and loving others. Check your expert satellite listings to see what you can learn from her!
