Marketing Stuff

I have a friend who needs to figure out how to market himself in a unique way. He's decided to watch the competition to see what they do as well as other people in different fields. This is probably THE best way to see what's out there and how to make yourself stand out. He saw an ad that he really liked from an Oakland motorcycle accident lawyer and a few other people and kind of has an idea what he wants to do but has to figure out how to do it as cheaply as possible without making it look cheesy.

This is along the lines of what I'm considering when I'm able to get myself up and running. Well, I think that anyone would be in the same boat when advertising huh? I am fortunate in that I work with someone who does something like what I want to do so I can see what works and what doesn't. I think that there's no better way to learn than from experience...at someone else's expense. ;o)

Cleaning House

I haven't been working nearly as mucha s I've wanted to this last week or so. Our house has gotten to a horrific state and it desperately needs attention. The bad part is that work suffers for a time being but eventually things will get back on track I think.

I'm sad to say taht I never did get around to ordering my craft kits. I rean out of time and now money but I'm definitely still doing thos reviews if it's the end of me. LOL!

As it is right now I'm staying up WAY too long to get things just slightly under control so in my case no news doesn't mean good news.

Business Professionalism

How professional do you think it is when a business' phone line is the owner's cell phone and they never answer it? I've had that happen to me a lot as the contractor or employee. I find that even without a caller id number, they never answered and let the call got to voicemail. Now, If I were a customer I wouldn't want to be leaving messages on people's cell phones but would expect to have someone answer. I just don't think that shouts great customer service. I can understand when you just can't pick it up but how often is too often to let that happen?

Planning Ahead

We've been checking out life insurance rates since we had a scare with DH. I really don't know what I would do if something happened to him and bills piled up on top of our regular expenses and the kids.

My father in law isn't doing too well either and all four of his kids are praying that he has something set up to help with the costs after he's gone. He's got that "old world" mentality and won't talk about how much money he has or doesn't have let alone what other things he has going on. Money was always such a taboo topic. So we are all just bracing ourselves and pray that he didn't ever go into debt because we can't afford to do anything once he's gone. Ugh, money...

A New Venture

I'v been working really hard at creating my own business and I think I'm finally getting things in the works. The time for researching and all that is SO long! I've been planning to do something of my own on the side for years but I think with the experience I've gotten this past year or so has helped a lot. The only thing I really need to work on now is finding the balance between my toddler and work. She's been a royal pain...I forgot how hard toddlers can be. It's really too bad that I didn't have things together sooner because working around this tiny person is not an easy task at all!

Break Time!

I could TOTALLY use a break! Any kind of vacation would be nice since we haven't gone anywhere in almost two years. Sometimes I just want to pack up our Samsonite luggage and go..some where, any where!

Even though things are bad right now we've been saving to hopefully get to Disneyland next year some time. It would have been nice to go this year for the kids' birthdays. Hawaii would be really nice too! Two of my friends just got back and they're all nice and rested. I'm SO jealous!

The Painful Truth

My husband is having a lot of chronic pain and can hardly function. That makes his job search even harder since he can't do a wide range of movement like he normally could. The worst part is that he can't even get into the doctor so that he can find out if he is qualified for social security disability. Times have been really tough with me being the only one working what ever I can. We definitely feel the crunch like a lot of others are. The economy isn't going to bounce back any time soon and until things start getting better in a whole we aren't sure how much longer we can hold on. I really hope it's sooner then later!

The Debate Over Unemployment

With California reaching an "all time high" the debate is raging over whether these people are really trying or just lazy. This really pisses me off! I overheard this on the radio the other night and I was just ready to burst.

First of all, the amount of money you get from this is not nearly enough to live off of unless you made an extreme amount of money before you got laid off. There's just no way and I seriously doubt that the people saying that these people don't want to work have ever experienced it for themselves.

If that weren't enough, people are actually "dumbing down" their resumes to take jobs that they might be over qualified for. Where we are if you aren't an illegal immigrant or have college experience you're totally stuck. Employers have a vast amount of applicants for ANY jobs they might be offering that they have the ability to be extremely picky. One guy that was on the news has been looking for MONTHS, showed up to an arcade staff opening and found over 50 people waiting to apply and some were wearing suits! This poor guy didn't even own a suit. You can guess he didn't get that job.

The debate keeps going but unless you are unemployed right now I highly doubt that these people have any room to talk what so ever. I know a few people who are just like that guy and can't land anything no matter what they do or how hard they try. It's tough out there and if people could be a little less judgemental and a little more supportive it might make the situation a tiny bit more bearable for everyone.
